Fishing News
On March 14, 2015 Sulphur Springs High School Fishing Club had a tournament on Lake Cedar Creek. The weather was a slow, very light rain all day long, with cool temps. While the weather was bad the fishing was not for some of the SS team. The team of Sam Scott and Zech Jarvis along with their boat captain Shane Campbell were able to weigh in four fish to lockup third place over all in the tournament. This was a tough tournament and a tough lake to fish out of the field of 180 entries there where a lot of zeros. Way to go Sam Scott And Zech Jarvis! Check out our Web Page at Texas High School Bass Assn.

Sulphur Springs High School Fishing Club had it's Third tournament on Lake Cedar Creek On Saturday January 11, 2014. There were 77 teams from 23
high schools from across North Texas present to do battle. The fishing was slow due to a heavy cold front and clear sky, along with a rising barometric
pressure. Of the 77 teams entered only 19 of those weighed fish in at the end of the day. The team of Jared Penton and Curtis Daugherty of Sanger High
School won first place with three fish for 6.37 lbs. The Sulphur Springs team of Matt Reynolds and Braden Katchinska came in at 9th place with one fish for
2.20 lbs. This was very hard fishing and I am proud of the job these young men and women did , there is no quit in them. A job well done to all the Sulphur
Springs teams.

We had our first tournament of the year for High Schools at Lake Fork Saturday. There were 62 teams from 26 Schools at the event. The teams are two man
teams so as you can see that is a lot of kids that were entered. The weather was ok but cool and windy for the entire event.
Sulphur Springs High School had three teams at the tournament with one team coming in second place over all. The team of Braden Katchinska and Matt Reynolds came in second place just missing the first place spot by a few tenths of a pound.
A big "Thank You" to Ron Grantham for being their boat captain.
The Middle School Fishing Club met at Lake SSMS Saturday at 2:00pm and fished until 5:00 pm . Twelve fish were caught with at least two fish
that were caught by club members who caught their first black bass. It was a good day at Lake SSMS.
Wildcat Invitational at Lake Fork
The Wildcats of Rains High School and the Wildcats of Sulphur Springs High School co-hosted the first annual Wildcat Invitational at Lake Fork this past
Saturday, April 20, 2013. Twenty-three teams representing eleven high schools took to the waters of Lake Fork in search of Big Bass and the first annual
Wildcat Invitational High School Fishing Crown. ,High winds, clear Blue Bird skies, and morning temperatures in the high 30's greeted our competitors at
Pope's Landing Resort and Marina. The post frontal conditions called for a "Stingy Bite" from Mr. Greenfish and our student anglers struggled with the high
pressure conditions of several other tournaments being held on the lake. Lake Fork's unique "Slot-Limit" of 16-inches to 24-inches, requires fishing for the
"Right Sized" fish as an important strategy to a team's success. Several teams reported catching multiple slot fish during the tournament. Other teams spotted
multiple bass on beds, but just could not convince them to take their offering. As the weigh-in proceedings commenced, many teams brought only (1) or (2) fish
to the scales. That was until the team of Trevor Dykenna and Dakota Trimble from Crandall High School approached the stage with the first and only (5) fish limit of the day. Their total weight of 7.05 pounds was good enough to capture the first Wildcat Invitational Crown for 2013. Listed below are the Top (5) teams and
weights along with Big Bass and 2nd Big Bass of the tournament that were awarded team trophies, individual plaques, and sponsor provided prizes for this event:
1st Place - Trevor Dykenna & Dakota Trimble - Crandall HS (5) Fish for 7.05 Pounds
2nd Place - Elliott Pipps & Timmy Sowell - Lumberton HS (2) Fish for 4.28 Pounds
3rd Place - Dilan House & Nick Grell - Rains HS (2) Fish for 3.75 Pounds

2nd Big Bass of the Tournament - Dylan Thetford & Paul Downs 2.34 Pounds
